MUSIC Stage 5 - Year 9 & 10 Students will be provided with the opportunity to develop skills in the areas of performance, composition, aural and musicology through a variety of activities which are dependent upon the number of students enrolled in the course and the specific talents they bring to the classroom.
Areas of Study:
General Musicianship Development Regardless of an individuals level of musicality all students are given the opportunity to develop their listening, performance, research and compositional skills in this area. The main criteria for entry into this course are a genuine enthusiasm for music and a willingness to participate. Performance Ryde Secondary College has a long history of music performance both inside and outside the College. Small classical ensembles, together with rock, jazz, vocal and concert band ensembles play regularly at College assemblies, open nights, and many other events. The Ryde School Spectacular and musical productions provide additional opportunities for students to perform. Although entry into elective music doesn’t guarantee a position on one of these selected ensembles priority is first given to elective music students. Variety of Musical Styles The Music Faculty adopts a supportive approach towards all styles of music and strives to develop the students’ general musicality regardless of personal stylistic preferences. Topics studied in Year 9 and 10 may include Rock , Recent Contemporary Styles, Small Ensembles and Music Through The Ages, encompassing Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Twentieth Century styles Technology in Music The use of technology in music commences with the development of musical instruments and extends into sound systems, amplification, recording devices and the computer. The Music Faculty at Ryde Secondary College encourages the use of technology in music and uses keyboards linked with computers to advance individual students as far as possible in musicianship and compositional skills.
