TECHNICS: METAL/PLASTICS

The subject provides a broad based study of Metal, Plastics, and Glazing (Glass) technologies which are applied to the development of practical projects.

 It is primarily "hands on" combined with a  theory content.

 

Because of the practical nature of this subject students learn subject knowledge and skills through the production and completion of practical works, students can expect to complete many varied items by the time they complete this course in Year 10.

 

Some of the practical works and the subject areas are listed below:

 

METAL                       Sheet Metals    -          Tool Boxes/Fishing Equipment

                                  Welding            -           Nut Cracker/Mirror Frames

                                                           -           Garden Equipment, Coffee Holder,

                                                           -           Candle Holder

                                  Machining         -           Various hand tools

 PLASTICS                 Bending            -           Games, Photo Frames

                                   Fabrication       -           Wall Clocks/Fishing Lures

 GLAZING                  Glass Cutting     -           Lead Light Construction

                                                            -           Kaleidoscopes

 COMBINATION           Projects involving a combination of materials and processes.

 

Students in Year 10 will be able to choose a project of their choice in any of the above subject areas of study.

 This course is suitable for both male and female students

 Multiple choice testing is used for both half and end of year exams.

Safety requirements for shoes, hair and the wearing of an apron apply to this practical subject.
